Atavist's first album after reforming is a funeral-doom inflected slab of melancholic death doom that explores loss and absolution. Sometimes gentle and reflective, othertimes crushingly heavy, this is quality doom metal.

I have listened to this album for about a week and am still now trying to articulate my thoughts. This is an important album. Like, for this moment in time it connected with me emotionally like nothing else since I have been trapped inside waiting out this bullshit (i.e. 2020). "Loss" is a monumental song that is representative of many of these feelings. Then "Struggle" kicks in and the album proceeds to crush you completely. Listen closely - it could change your overall perspective.

This was truly a revelation. I was getting started with funeral doom, working on something with my headphones on... Then came Déluge... my jaw actually dropped, I stopped what I was doing and, wide-eyed, just listened to the track, baffled and amazed. After the album was over (I never do this), I went to lay down with my headphones to enjoy it over again. I rarely heard (and felt) this much power and emotion in an album. Until I find something better, this is my landmark for peak funeral doom.
